On Tuesday, 25th of April 2017, the AFA-Austrian Fashion Awards 2017 were awarded at Alte Post, Vienna. The awarding ceremony was the start of Take Festival for Independent Fashion and Arts that will last until Saturday, 29th of April 2017 and offers a diverse program full of shows, performances and exhibitions.
The lucky winners of the four awarded prizes are:
FEMME MAISON: Fashion Award of the City of Vienna
Markus Wernitznig: Fashion Award of the Federal Chancellery of Austria.
WENDY JIM: outstanding artist award for experimental fashion design of the Federal Chancellery of Austria
Rani Bageria: WIEN PRODUCTS Accessories Award
AUSTRIAN FASHION AWARDS
With a total allowance of EUR 38,000 the Fashion Award of the City of Vienna, the Fashion Award of the Federal Chancellery of Austria, the outstanding artist award for experimental fashion design of the Federal Chancellery of Austria and the WIEN PRODUCTS Accessories Award belong to the most important and most highly endowed awards in the field of Austrian design.
This year again, the Austrian Fashion Awards surprised and wowed 700 guests with a multimedia fashion presentation. The video installation under the title „Linienwesen“ was created by 4youreye ProjectionArt, the soundtrack was created by Oliver Aitzetmüller aka Böse Katze.

FEMME MAISON – Winner of the Fashion Award of the City of Vienna
The Austrian luxury fashion label of Franziska Fürpass and Sia Ali-Pour-Kermani ist known for their modern, timeless designs and highest workmanship quality. Each piece is designed and handcrafted in their Viennese atelier. The label is known internationally and available in New York, South Korea, Los Angeles among others. Dr. Andreas Mailath-Pokorny, city council for culture, science and sports congratulated Franziska Fürpass and Sia Ali-Pour-Kermani on this award that includes prize money of EUR 10,000.
Markus Wernitznig - Winner Fashion Award of the Federal Chancellery of Austria
The designer lives and works in London and has already finished internships at Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Céline and Tom Ford. He won the award with his graduate collection „Experimenteller – Surrealer – Minimalismus“. Mag. Thomas Drozda, Federal Minister of Arts and Culture, Constitution and Media handed over the award that includes prize money from EUR 15,600 to EUR 18,000.
The winner will receive a one year internship at an internationally active fashion house.
WENDY JIM - Winner of the outstanding artist award for experimental fashion design of the Federal Chancellery of Austria
Helga Ruthner and Hermann Fankhauser met during their studies under Helmut Lang.
WENDY JIM effortlessly manage the balancing act between high fashion and streetwear.
Mag. Thomas Drozda, Federal Minister of Arts and Culture, Constitution and Media awarded the prize including money of EUR 10,000.
Rani Bageria – Winner of the WIEN PRODUCTS Accessories Award
The designer could convince with her „Rani Boots“, timeless pistol boots made out of studded leather. These shoes combine tradition and zeitgeist and arouse an aura of a modern Jeanne D’Arc. The winner receives an extensive service package from WIEN PRODUCTS.
Fashion Presentation „Linienwesen“
This year, the artistic staging of the AFA-Austrian Fashion Awards was realized with 4youreye ProjectionArt. In a video installation with the title „Linienwesen“ selected collection pieces of the AFA nominees and of some of the young talents promoted by the AFA support programme were arranged to a walk-in artistic synthesis. Composer and sound designer Oliver Aitzetmüller aka Böse Katze created the soundtrack for the installation. Host of the evening was sociologist and fashion theorist Monica Titton.
