“My main goal is to create experiences, haunting and memorable feelings; to have and to keep – be it a mind blowing space installation or
an act of wearing a simple black dress.” – Marit Ilison

A selection of images becomes her moodboard…
A multi-disciplinary artist and fashion designer, Ilison, mixes deep concepts with feelings and eye-catching form. Her collection Longing For Sleep, inspired by cold wintery time and made of vintage Soviet blankets caught the eyes of many at the 29th Hyères festival and has brought her the Vogue Talent title.
Her Resort’16 collection, which was presented at 30th Hyères Fashion and Photography Festival this past spring, has been inspired by her dreams of her grandmother and the might of women – “their strong shell and gentle soul”, Ilison says. “There is an Estonian word “kabuhirm””, she continues, “which means the fear of “kabu”. “Kabu” is a dialect word meaning a woman who has given birth – hence the most powerful being on Earth. The collection is an interpretation bringing together the rough and heavy wool with the soft and savory velvets.

The dresses are pure and innocent, just as the soul inside the mighty women. The coats create safe cocoon, just as our mothers protect their world. The modest cuts are inspired by the Soviet milkmaid’s workwear.”
The collection will be stocked at Imarika in Milan, Gago in Aix-en-Provence and at www.maritilison.com.
Selected pieces from Longing For Sleep unique coat collection will soon be available at a very special shop in London, TBA.
