BLITZ presents a limited-edition global exclusive collaboration with 3.1 Phillip Lim: The designer’s first collection of exotic skin handbags. Available in a limited quantity (less than 20 pieces are available per style globally) and currently high on the radar of fashion pioneers who have an affinity for luxury; the collection combines premium high-quality American crocodile skin and Lim’s cool, modern and chic design aesthetic to create a range of luxe and covetable handbags.
Launched during Paris Fashion Week with the designer, the collection consists of three of Lim’s popular styles – The 31 Minute Bag (a modern-sized envelope clutch), The Mini Ryder (a square shaped satchel with a top handle and an adjustable shoulder strap) and The Wednesday (a Boston-style bag). Each style is available in two colourways, Jet Black & Jade Green two-tone and Black-on-Black monotone. Kim Kollar, Director of Fashion & Special Projects for BLITZ and Lane Crawford Shoes, Handbags & Accessories; “Phillip Lim immediately came to mind when we decided to do a project like Exotic City because we wanted to add a contemporary point of view to exotic skin bags. We felt that these three silhouettes are great examples of his effortless way of adding twists to classic and that this collection could inspire a new perception of what exotic bags can be.” A select group of guests and key media will join Phillip Lim to celebrate this BLITZ exhibition launch at The Joyce Gallery Palais-Royal in Paris on September 30, where VIP customers will be given a special opportunity to be the first to shop/order the bags via tablets.
The collection will be sold exclusively online and shipped globally via lanecrawford.com for one week commencing September 30, before an in-store release at Lane Crawford ifc mall and Lane Crawford Canton Road in Hong Kong on October 7.
3.1 Phillip Lim’s raison d’être is providing an approachable designer experience with beautiful everyday classics accented with touches of madness. The result: cool, easy, chic looks for men and women that embody youthful elegance and personal style – has won the brand cult status in the contemporary fashion world. Lim says, “3.1 is about clothes that refine instead of define. A refinement that’s a bit classic in attitude, but imparts a sense of individual style, without looking or feeling forced. Confident, unidentifiable, chic and most of all effortless.” Phillip Lim debuted his eponymous brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim, in 2005 to instant success, both critically and commercially. An inaugural presentation of the Fall ’05 collection kicked off New York Fashion Week with glowing reviews. Widespread recognition of Lim’s talent quickly followed. In January 2006, Fashion Group International awarded Lim first place in the Women’s Designer ‘Rising Star’ category. In July, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue magazine nominated Lim as a finalist for the prestigious 2006 Fashion Fund Award.
2013 was a big year for the brand, winning its third CFDA award, this time for Accessories design along with Designer of the year by The Accessories Council during it’s ACE awards. The end of the year also saw the opening of the brands first location in Beijing and a widely successful collaboration with Target. The company’s vision of designer clothes at contemporary prices has opened up the once dormant bridge (entry level designer) market, establishing itself as a respected business model and is seen as a pioneering force in the industry.

-How did the collaboration with Phillip Lim to launch Exotic City come about?
KK: Exotic City originated from the idea of the possibility of amazing things we would like to collect and to own. We covet crocodile handbags for the natural and wild beauty of the skins and the statement of luxury that they offer and the time seemed right to want a crocodile that was beyond traditional styling and design.
-Why did you choose to collaborate with Phillip Lim?
KK: As a multi-brand retailer, we get to work with almost all of the designers. Phillip Lim came to mind immediately when the idea for Exotic City presented itself to us. As a designer, he achieves modern, beautiful, and cool with a high degree of effortlessness. We felt that the Exotic City collection that we wanted to launch should have a sense of timelessness but with a touch of the unexpected and Phillip Lim felt like the perfect collaborator. With handbags, more so than in other accessories, it is in the details. Phillip is very much about the details.
-What is the concept behind the BLITZ x Exotic City collection? Why did you choose to launch an exotic skins collection?
KK: BLITZ operates with the mindset of pushing the boundaries beyond what we see on the market. Pairing this with the Pedder Group ethos of “Beyond Desire” is the propelling combination that leads us to projects such as Exotic City. Lane Crawford has experienced a very successful business with our existing exotic skin brands.
