The 20th edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week ended after ten days of shows and various events presented downtown. The 20th edition of this grand fashion event in the Netherlands was the first under the name ‘Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam ‘.
Mattijs van Bergen had the honor to open the week’s shows with his new FW 2014 collection ‘COMPLEMENTAIR, inspired by the painting techniques and colors of Van Gogh and was developed in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum. Designer and artist Aziz Bekkaoui caused the biggest buzz with a spectacular show, “An homage to diversity” as he stated.
Highlights included the menswear designer Francisco van Benthum who showed a collection inspired by constructivism, an art movement from Russia from the period 1919-1934, a statement by reflecting to the current protest attitudes against and in Russia.
Other participants included: Winde Rienstra, Dorhout Mees, Said Mahrouf, Dennis Diem, Tony Cohen, Rebecca Ward and Fashion Week newcomer Ratna HO.
