Thailand born and based designer O Thongthai debuts at London Fashion Week with her Autumn/Winter 2014 collection “Original Gangster” channeling the energy and values of youth. Thongthai invites us into her memories producing pieces that look to the future but reference the past, layered in meaning and significance. Her grandfather taught her about life and it’s infinite variety and this has become a key theme within this season’s collection, communication through the wabi-sabi of the designers daily life in Bangkok – finding beauty and pleasure amongst deterioration, the derelict and that which is past its prime.
Thongthai launched her namesake brand after graduating from Central Saint Martin’s with a degree in Graphic Design and Moving Image before embarking on studies of gemology leading her into the field of Jewellery design. In October 2013 the brand was invited to participate in ELLE Bangkok Fashion Week and Seoul Fashion Week marking this emerging designer as a rising start amongst South East Asian contemporary fashion talent. Each piece is designed and made in Thailand, hand-crafted from wax before being re-cast in brass and plated in Rose Gold, Silver, Gold, Black Ruthenium and Silver925.
