Pleats! Nothing more elegant, more timeless, more feminine than pleats that give the feeling of the handmade.
Being synonymous with the couture since ever, this classic effect upon fabrics appeared in many of next season’s catwalks, gaining a premium rank in summer’s 2014 top trends.
So what’s new?
We saw the maxi samurai-meets-girl at Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy and we fell in love with Alber Elbaz’s metallic dresses at Lanvin. Haider Ackermann showed one of the best collections of the new season, based on draped and pleated fabrics worn over men’s trousers. At Chloe the pleats were colored white, filling the air with youth and romanticism, while Raf Simons at Dior chose bias-cut pleats for his arty skirts. However, nothing tops the sheer pleated under-the-knee ethereal creations of Phoebe Philo for Celine, who combined another major trend for next summer: Transparency. Seen together our heart goes boom.
