For their Spring/Summer 2015 Monsieur ‘Bodyworks’ collection, Viktor&Rolf take their Monsieur from the office to the gym. An interpretation of movement, the collection embodies the counterpoint of relaxation versus tension, which creates a mix of smart and casual wear with an active yet unexpected twist visible in both the looks and the strong detailing. Sportswear elements are emphasized by the use of combination materials such as nylon, technical cotton, silk cotton and the bold mix of nylon and leather, while the effects of trompe l’oeil engineers the illusion of layering throughout the collection.
This layering aspect is key to SS15 as it results in strong statement pieces that are both refined, intelligent, and subtly playful. An easy silhouette is translated into light and unconstructed garments which remain body conscious, while highlighting the importance of movement. A masculine colour card underlines the essence of the collection. Soft colours such as icy blue, cool mint, pearl grey and beige are infused next to classic colours such as black, navy, grey, white and accented with bright highlights of orange and lime.
This season’s statement colour, a standout bottle green infuses a luxurious accent into the summer palate. Accessories complement the masculine essence of the collection, with an offering of a modern interpretation of the classic men’s shoes – featuring a striped micro sole and defined buckle detailing – which reflect a perfect fusion of classic and sporty. A highlight of the accessories collection, is the designer’s personal favourite, the ‘softy’ – which is unlined, easy to wear, and perfect for the summer.
