This week, the Villa Noailles welcomes the 9th edition of Design Parade. The Festival brings together exhibitions and exchanges around an international competition open to young designers. In a manner similar to its fashion and photography festival, Design Parade furthers the assistance the villa Noailles provides towards young artists and unites designers, industry professionals, journalists and the public. A jury, composed of professionals from design fields (designers, editors, journalists) gather to choose ten young designers. The jury, directed this year by the Dutch duo Scholten & Baijings, will award the winners at the end of the 3 days festival.
Linked to the Design Parade’s exhibitions, the Espace d’art Le Moulin at La Valette-du-Var presents the 2012 competition’s winner: Julie Richoz. From this year, Le Moulin takes part to the season of exhibitions of the Grand Prix awarded designer of the villa Noailles, after Cologne, Paris and Hyères. This year almost 250 applications have been sent, from 34 countries. The jury came together at the villa Noailles on the 14th of May and chose 10 designers. The 10 competing designers will show their works in villa Noailles during three month. They will meet individually the jury during the festival. On Sunday July 6th, the last day of the festival, the jury will award one designer by the Grand Prix. The competing designers’ collective exhibition in villa Noailles will be open until September 28th 2014, as the other Design Parade 9 exhibitions.

SCHOLTEN & BAIJINGS OVER THE RAINBOW
At the invitation of the villa Noailles, the Dutch design duo of Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings have chosen a broad selection from their oeuvre, in order to present it to the public. Of particular note are recent and sometimes previously unseen editions, such as: Luce Di Carrara marble tables, Strap Chair for Moustache, Dot Chair for HAY and Shift Cabinet for Pastoe. The science of colors which characterizes their work infuses the swimming pool at the villa Noailles. This color palette has been created especially for the exhibition and takes its inspiration from the landscape and the surrounding sky. The designers have in turn invited another duo, the photographers Scheltens & Abbenes, who are exhibiting a photographic commission on porcelain called Tea with Georg Collection for Georg Jensen. This will be on display in the squash court at the villa Noailles. The accompanying text in the catalogue was written by Lidewij Edelkoort.
